Face-To-Face Teachers

Background: EPOP is seeking volunteers to teach university preparation courses in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. EPOP works with the best and brightest civil-society and development workers in Southeast Asia in an effort to increase their access to tertiary education. Your participation in the program will build the capacity of these future leaders and contribute to the development of strong civil society sectors throughout the region.

Responsibilities: (1)Teach 15-20 hours per week – because students also hold full-time jobs, classes will likely be held on weekends or in the evening. Courses include Academic English 1, Academic English 2 and TOEFL Prep. (2) Logistical coordination – Teachers will be responsible for handing out textbooks, collecting book fees and tracking expenses related to program activities. (3) Provide online support – Teachers are expected to assign and grade online forums and essays, and answer student’s questions over email. Accordingly, it is important for teachers to bring a personal laptop for use during their placement. (4) Community outreach – EPOP teachers have the added responsibility of creating a positive and fruitful learning environment and engaging constructively with the communities they are residing. This is a unique opportunity to network and connect with local Community Based Organizations (CBOs), engage in basic program coordination, and get first-hand experience in the development community.

Qualifications:The ideal candidate for the position will be highly motivated, flexible and possess a strong commitment to increasing access to quality education. Additionally, they will possess at least two of the following criteria:

- Fluency in written and spoken English and have a solid understanding of English grammar
- Bachelor’s Degree from an English speaking program
- Previous Teaching Experience (Experience with TOEFL would be helpful)
- TEFL, Celta or other English language teaching certification

Support: EPOP’s curriculum is set and teachers are provided the best books and listening materials available. Teachers and students receive guidance through EPOP’s learning portal. In the portal, students and teachers have access to additional resources and can view the syllabus and assessment schedule. EPOP’s student portal provides guidance to both teachers and students. Teachers are provided technical support in the use of the online portal.

Compensation: EPOP volunteers receive a stipend of 3000Baht per month to help with accommodation, transportation expenses. EPOP also covers volunteer’s visa extension costs while in country.
